John Frederick Nembhard (1758 - 1797)

John Frederick Nembhard (II) born 1758 in St. Ann was a surgeon to the St. Ann militia in 1795, and the eldest son of Doctor John and Anne Nembhard. He was married to Sophie Anne Edwards in 1793. His brother William came down from Clarendon to meet Ballard and together they attended their brother John's wedding. John died in Jamaica in 1797 aged 39 and is buried at Hermitage, St. Ann. He and Sophie had a son called John Frederick Nembhard (III) born 1796. Sophia re-married to a Mr Milne. She owned land and slaves in Pedro River, S.t Ann.
Their son John Frederick Nembhard (III) born 1796 was an assistant Judge of Common Pleas for the parishes of St. Ann and Clarendon in 1821. He married Eleanor Parke in 1821 at Hermitage, St Ann. Died 1827 aged 31. At his death in 1827 his estate was shared among his children. (In 1836 his widow Eleanor, re-married to William Bromley Rose). They owned land and slaves in St. Ann.

Their first son also named John Frederick Nembhard (VI) was born in 1823. He married Ludovina Menteth in 1852 in Culcutta, India where he joined the military, became a senior officer and Major General and received a medal in recognition of his conduct in the battles of Chillianwallah and Goojerat, India. He died of Cholera during the Sonthal Expedition in 1856. Ludovina died in 1891. They had two children; Frederick C. W. L. Nembhard born in India 1853, and Ludovina Sarah Eliza Nembhard born in India 1855. Ludovina married Thomas Gardiner Bolster M.D. (born 1840) a surgeon in the military in India. He died in 1893.
Eliza Jane Nembhard was born in 1825. She married in 1846 to Rev. Logan Dobinson, Rector of Lockington Yorkshire, (England) born 1818. She died in 1887 and is buried at St. Peters in Bournemouth, England. She changed her surname to Logan.
Edward their youngest son born 1826, a Lieut. served with the 53rd Bengal Native Infantry in India, and died in 1851 near Delhi, India. He was not married. He bequeathed his property to his brother Brevet Major John F. Nembhard (III) of the 56th Regiment Native Infantry, who was sole Executor.
The slave register shows that John Frederick, Eliza Jane, and Edward Nembhard all owned slaves in the parishes of
St. Ann and St. Mary.
