Legacy
Whilst the European Nembhards ended their direct connection with Jamaica around 1850 when they returned to Europe, they left behind the effects of slavery being; the natural children, servants, slaves, and free persons all named Nembhard who became our ancestors. Today the Nembhards are spread throughout Jamaica in the parishes of St. Mary, St. Ann, Clarendon, St Elizabeth, Hanover, Kingston and across the Caribbean. Nembhards can also be found in Central America, North America, South Africa, and Europe.
So the research into my own family ancestry in Jamaica and beyond continues, and as you can see there are several branches of the Nembhard family. Wouldn't it be great if I could trace the name or the story of that courageous African who was responsible for my lineage? In the meantime, I plan to discover my DNA story which will give me some clues into my ethnicity makeup.
I hope this information is somewhat helpful to those interested in trying to determine their connection with the original Nembhard of Jamaica.
Feedback is welcome.
